Frequently Asked Questions

Why should you buy organic?

There have been many health problems linked to conventional farming, including allergies, asthma, diabetes, obesity, cancer, birth defects and hormone imbalances. When buying food, you must make wise choices.

Here are some tips from the Environmental Working Group (EWG).

Always buy organic fruits & vegetables.

Look for USDA organic labels on meat, poultry, eggs, milk, cheese, yogurt, butter, and honey.

Avoid processed foods labelled "natural"/ "no additives."

Be sure to read all ingredient labels. It is possible to add an ingredient during processing if it isn't already listed.

Fresh meats are better than canned or frozen. Cans and frozen foods are often less nutritious than fresh meats, such as high fructose corn syrup.

What are the top organic products?

Organic food is the fastest-growing industry today. Even though we have come a long ways from our roots there is still plenty of room for growth.

Organic products are the future. They are safer and more cost-effective for consumers.

But they also tend to be higher priced. The Organic Food Index was created to address this. We wanted to determine which foods are the most popular among shoppers today and whether these trends are changing.

These results indicate that organic food is growing in popularity. Between 2011 & 2012, almost half of Americans purchased organic food.

According to the USDA, organic production increased by 10% last year alone. Organic food now accounts for 9% of U.S. agricultural output.

Organic food is definitely on the rise, but it still seems expensive for consumers. According to the Organic Trade Association, (OTA), organic food retail prices are nearly twice as expensive than conventional options.

Organic food is growing faster that any other sector of the food industry. Looking closely at the data, you'll see that organic food consumption has grown steadily since 2009.

According to OTA the volume of organic products sold at supermarkets grew by 14% in 2010 and 2011.

This increase reflects consumer demand for healthier foods, which explains why organic food sales are increasing across all age groups.

The younger generation is however leading the charge for organic food. Millennials are twice likely to choose organic food than the baby boomers. Young adults aged below 35 account for 25%.

How To

What happens to your body when you switch to organic products?

Organic products can be grown without synthetic fertilizers, hormones or antibiotics. They are derived from clean water and animals that have been free to roam. The term "organic", which means they don't contain additives or chemicals, refers to their non-containing any. This product was created by nature, and therefore does not contain harmful substances.

Natural refers to the way food was grown. It is usually used to describe foods that haven't been processed into their final form (e.g., fruits). Natural foods are often fresher because they're not subject to heat radiation, chemical preservatives or any other treatment. Some people don't believe that natural means healthy. Experts aren't sure if there is much to be different between organic and traditional foods. Both types of food are tested for safety, quality, and purity. Organic produce is less likely to contain pesticide residues and pollutants than conventionally grown produce.

Most grocery stores offer organic options. For organic meats, poultry, eggs and seafood, you should check with your local supermarket. Some companies sell only organic products. Other companies have separate sections. USDA Certified Organic is a non-GMO Project Verified company.

You should avoid eating these items if you are pregnant or nursing. Pesticides have been shown to harm infants and unborn babies.
